Scholarship Eligibility in Telangana: Courses, Income and Documents

Scholarship eligibility in Telangana depends on the particular scheme, not simply on being a student in the state. Your course, institution, community category, family income, study history and fresh or renewal status can all affect which application route fits. Start by identifying the scheme that matches your circumstances before collecting documents or filling a form.

The two main starting points are Telangana ePASS for state scholarship services and the National Scholarship Portal, or NSP, for schemes listed there. This guide explains how to assess your eligibility, distinguish income evidence from income limits, and decide what to check next.

Choose the scholarship route that fits your studies

ePASS separates post-matric, pre-matric and overseas services. Its post-matric routes distinguish SC, ST, BC, EBC, minority and disabled-welfare applicants, including separate arrangements for students studying outside Telangana. NSP eligibility is also scheme-specific: use its eligibility checker and read the relevant scheme’s Specifications.

Route Who should check it Main eligibility question
ePASS post-matric Students seeking Telangana post-matric support Does your category, course and institution fit the applicable route?
ePASS pre-matric School students exploring state pre-matric support Which scheme covers your class and category?
ePASS overseas Students planning eligible overseas study Does the category-specific scheme fit your admission and required records?
NSP Students checking national scholarship options Do you meet the individual scheme’s course, income and other conditions?

Income eligibility: check the limit and the certificate separately

There is no single income ceiling to apply across all Telangana scholarship routes. Check the limit stated for your category and scheme, including the applicable government order where relevant. Do not assume that an income condition for one scholarship also applies to another.

The certificate requirement is a separate question. The ePASS 2026–27 fresh prerequisites page specifies a MeeSeva income certificate obtained after 1 April 2025. That date concerns the supporting document; it is not an income ceiling. Check both the permitted income and the required certificate date before submitting.

Course, institution and study mode can change eligibility

On NSP, eligibility checks distinguish the institution, course, study mode and previous marks, alongside personal eligibility factors. A scheme appearing on the portal does not mean every course at your college qualifies. Match your actual course and mode of study to the scheme’s Specifications.

For ePASS, use the service appropriate to your study level and category. If admission involved a CET allotment, the fresh prerequisites require the allotment order where applicable. Students studying outside Telangana should check the separate arrangements rather than assuming the standard in-state route applies.

Category, domicile and study history need separate checks

Community category and domicile are distinct eligibility factors. NSP’s checker considers both, along with disability, income and academic details. Use the category recorded in your official documents and check the scheme’s own domicile condition rather than choosing a route solely because you currently study in Telangana.

ePASS fresh applicants are asked to prepare seven consecutive years of study or bonafide certificates. These records belong to the application’s study-history requirements. Make sure you can account for the requested years and ask your institution about missing records before beginning the form.

Keep evidence ready for your eligibility assessment

Use your documents to confirm what you will enter, not just as attachments collected at the end. The following checklist reflects ePASS fresh prerequisites. NSP applicants must instead follow the upload requirements for their selected scheme; the two portals do not have one interchangeable document list.

  • SSC details, including the identifiers needed by the application.
  • Aadhaar and an accessible mobile number.
  • MeeSeva caste and income certificates required for your route.
  • Seven consecutive years of study or bonafide certificates.
  • CET allotment order, where applicable.
  • Photograph and the required scanned records.
  • Bank-passbook first page where required; the ePASS fresh page exempts EBC students from this requirement.

Fresh and renewal applicants have different starting points

A returning applicant should check the renewal route first. ePASS renewal retrieves the previous record using the previous-year application ID, SSC pass type, hall-ticket number, pass year and Aadhaar name. Follow the retrieved form rather than creating a fresh application simply because a new academic year has begun.

NSP renewal uses the existing OTR and application login. If a previous application is missing after moving from a parent or guardian-based OTR to the student’s own OTR, the FAQ provides a Link Renewal Application procedure. Renewal remains subject to the selected scheme’s requirements.

Check current availability after checking eligibility

As checked on 9 October 2026, NSP listed student applications until 31 October 2026 for schemes including Pragati, Saksham, Swanath, SC/ST top-class scholarships, disability scholarships and National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship. PM-USP CSSS was marked renewal-only. Institute verification dates are separate from student submission dates.

The ePASS 2026–27 fresh page stated that registrations were open for ST, BC, EBC, minority and disabled-welfare students; its services page also listed SC fresh procedures and renewal routes. No post-matric closing date was verified. The BC/EBC overseas route displayed 15 October 2026, while SC and minority overseas registrations were closed. A current pre-matric window was not confirmed.

1. Write a short eligibility profile before choosing a scheme

Record your course, year, institution, study mode, domicile, community category, family income, previous marks and any relevant disability information. Add whether this is your first application or a renewal. This profile makes it easier to compare requirements without repeatedly searching through certificates.

For overseas study, include your admission position and available immigration documents. The BC/EBC Mahatma Jyothiba Phule Overseas Vidya Nidhi route requires COE/I-20 and a visa. Treat these as requirements for that route, not as a universal checklist for every overseas scholarship.

2. Match your profile to the official requirements

Open the relevant ePASS service or NSP scheme Specifications and compare each condition with your profile. Separate confirmed matches from unresolved questions, such as an income limit, institution entry or missing study certificate. Take those precise questions to your college’s scholarship contact before submitting.

For SC fresh ePASS applicants, the services describe name-matching, pre-registration and MeeSeva biometric authentication before application completion. Check the prescribed sequence early. Other category routes should follow their own prerequisites rather than borrowing the SC process.

3. Move to the right preparation or application guide

Once your eligibility checks are complete, use Scholarship Documents in Telangana: A Practical Preparation Checklist for document organisation. Then use How to Apply for Scholarships in Telangana and Track Your Application for submission and follow-up. The broader Scholarships for Telangana Students: Eligibility, Documents and Applications guide helps compare options.

On NSP, fresh applicants first obtain OTR through mobile registration, eKYC and face authentication. OTR registration is free but is not a scholarship application. The subsequent process includes Basic Information, Apply Fresh, an application ID, scheme selection, required uploads and Final Submit.

FAQ: Does studying in Telangana make me eligible?

Not automatically. Location is only part of the assessment. Check domicile, category, income, course, institution and other scheme conditions. Students studying outside Telangana should examine the separate ePASS arrangements, while students using NSP should follow the selected scheme’s Specifications.

FAQ: Can I apply without the required income certificate?

Follow the document prerequisites for your route rather than assuming a certificate can be added later. For ePASS 2026–27 fresh applications, the listed income certificate must have been obtained after 1 April 2025. If yours does not meet that requirement, resolve it before submission.

FAQ: Does renewal mean eligibility is automatic?

No. Renewal requirements still apply. The SC department’s procedural manual describes college checks for attendance, passing or promotion, and course continuation. On NSP, check the scheme-specific renewal conditions and use the existing application route so your previous record can be connected correctly.

FAQ: How do I check progress after applying?

Use NSP application login for application status; its student page separately links PFMS payment tracking. For ePASS status, keep your academic year, application number, SSC details and date of birth ready. The portal also provides application-number recovery and grievance links.

Accuracy note: Availability details reflect official pages checked on 9 October 2026. Confirm the current notice before applying; income limits and eligibility remain specific to the scheme and category.
