PMAY (U) – Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) : The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Mission was introduced on June 25, 2015, with the goal of housing everyone living in urban areas by 2023.

According to PMAY(U) rules, a residence for an Economically Weaker Section (EWS) may have a carpet space of up to 30 square meters; however, States and Union Territories (UTs) may choose to increase this amount with the Ministry’s approval.

Unlike previous schemes, PMAY (U) has made it necessary for the female head of the household to be the owner or co-owner of the house under this Mission, continuing the Government’s efforts to empower women from EWS and LIG.
