Scholarships for Kerala Students: Eligibility, Documents and Applications

Kerala students can explore scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal, Kerala e-Grantz, the Kerala State Higher Education Council and the Minority Welfare scholarship portal. The best starting point depends on your course, institution, academic record and the conditions of each scheme—not simply on living in Kerala.

Start by identifying a suitable route, reading its current notice and deciding whether you need a fresh application or renewal. This overview compares the main options and explains what to prepare, how to submit an application and where to follow up.

Compare the main scholarship routes

Use this comparison to choose which official portal to visit first. These routes serve different student groups, and a portal may host several schemes with separate rules. Finding a relevant scheme is the first step; checking its application window and detailed eligibility comes next.

Route Who should check it Main distinction
National Scholarship Portal Students exploring central scholarships, including college, technical and postgraduate options Eligibility and deadlines differ by scheme
Kerala e-Grantz SC/ST/OBC and other eligible-category students seeking educational assistance Departmental rules and institutional processing apply
KSHEC Higher Education Scholarship First-year non-professional undergraduates at government/aided colleges and universities Merit-based and renewable; not a general professional-course scholarship
Minority Welfare portal Students checking minority-community and course-specific assistance Each scheme has its own community, course and other conditions
Kerala NMMSE School students considering the means-cum-merit examination route Examination registration is separate from later NSP scholarship applications

Application windows and school-student options

As checked on 9 October 2026, NSP displayed the 2026–27 academic year. PM-USP Central Sector Scholarship renewal applications were open until 31 October 2026, with institute verification closing on 15 November and second-level verification on 30 November. Listed applications for AICTE Pragati, Saksham and Swanath, and National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies also closed on 31 October.

The Minority Welfare portal listed ITC/ITI Fee Reimbursement applications from 8 October to 20 November 2026. KSHEC’s displayed renewal deadline of 24 May 2026 had passed. No single statewide e-Grantz post-matric deadline was established, so check the selected scheme and ask your institution about its processing schedule.

For school students, Kerala NMMSE states an annual scholarship of ₹12,000 and a parental income ceiling of ₹3,50,000, with specified government/aided-school eligibility and special/residential-school exclusions. Its examination-registration deadline of 5 October 2026 and headmaster-verification deadline of 7 October had passed.

1. Match your student profile to the scheme

Write down your course, year of study, institution type and whether you previously received the scholarship. NSP eligibility can depend on domicile, community or religion where applicable, income, disability, study mode and academic results. Kerala residence alone does not establish eligibility.

KSHEC’s scheme begins with first-year undergraduates in non-professional disciplines at government/aided colleges and universities. e-Grantz is category-based educational assistance, while Minority Welfare schemes have separate conditions. Use the relevant academic-year guidelines for exact marks, income and certificate requirements.

  • Confirm that your course and institution fit the selected scheme.
  • Check applicable domicile, community, income or disability conditions.
  • Identify whether you are a fresh applicant or a continuing beneficiary.
  • Read any rules about receiving other scholarships or assistance.
  • Confirm that the application window covers your academic year.

2. Prepare a working document folder

Prepare likely records before filling the form, then match them to the selected scheme’s upload requirements. An earlier Minority Welfare guideline requested the records below, but this is a preparation checklist rather than a universal current requirement. NSP attachments and e-Grantz certificates are scheme-specific.

Check that names, course details and certificate information agree across your records. Keep readable digital copies and retain originals for institutional checks. On NSP, OTR also requires an active mobile number and Aadhaar-related authentication details; official FAQs explain enrolment-ID and minor/guardian alternatives.

  • Relevant examination mark lists
  • Admission or course proof
  • Aadhaar or the identification details permitted by the portal
  • Own-name bank passbook, where required
  • Community or minority certificate, where applicable
  • Village Officer income certificate, where required
  • Ration card, if requested
  • Registration or submitted-application printout

3. Apply or renew through NSP

For a fresh NSP application, obtain the mandatory lifelong One-Time Registration, or OTR. Log in, complete Basic Information, select Apply Fresh and generate an Application ID. Complete the scheme form, upload its required documents and use Final Submit. Keep the application details for tracking.

For renewal, use your existing OTR and linked renewal application rather than creating another OTR. NSP provides Link Renewal Application for specified cases where an older application is missing after moving from a parent or guardian’s Aadhaar to the student’s own Aadhaar. Follow the official instructions for that situation.

4. Follow the e-Grantz institutional route

Fresh post-matric applicants complete one-time registration, log in, fill their profile, use Add Qualification and then select Apply for Scholarship. Required certificates appear against the chosen scheme. Print the completed application for institutional verification, and ask your college how to hand it over.

For continuing students, the e-Grantz FAQ says the institution renews or promotes students for subsequent academic years. Confirm this with your scholarship clerk instead of submitting a duplicate fresh application. Missing institution or course details should also be raised with the institution first.

5. Use the correct state-portal instructions

On the KSHEC portal, choose the fresh or renewal manual relevant to your application and read the academic-year notice. Renewal students use student login to complete renewal. The portal also links selected lists and publishes scholarship help at 0471-2301297.

On the Minority Welfare portal, select the individual scheme and follow its current instructions. Earlier guidelines direct applicants to Final Submit and download the printout. For DCE opportunities, begin with the Higher Education Department’s official scholarship directory; the Chief Minister scholarship portal’s displayed 28 February 2026 deadline had already passed.

6. Track verification separately from payment

After submission, check NSP fresh or renewal status through student login. Payment tracking is separately linked to PFMS. For eligibility or verification issues, use Public → Nodal Officers (Scheme-wise). If the application is marked defective, follow the portal’s correction instructions rather than starting another application.

e-Grantz provides application tracking using registered Aadhaar details and date of birth, with claim status also available through login. Approval and payment are distinct: institutional claims, attendance and departmental approval affect disbursement. Minority Welfare applicants can use Status Report → Application Status.

Get help from the right office

Start with your institution when the issue concerns course details, verification or e-Grantz renewal. Keep your Application ID, scheme name and the relevant status message ready. For departmental assistance, e-Grantz publishes district and departmental contacts, while NSP provides scheme-wise nodal-officer details.

Minority Welfare publishes help numbers 0471-2300523, 0471-2300524 and 0471-2302090. The DCE Chief Minister scholarship portal lists 0471-2306580. Contact the office responsible for your scheme and explain the specific problem, such as a missing course, renewal record or pending verification.

Choose your next practical guide

For a closer eligibility check, continue with “Scholarship Eligibility in Kerala: Courses, Income and Documents.” Use “Scholarship Documents in Kerala: A Practical Preparation Checklist” to organise records. For submission, correction and tracking, choose “How to Apply for Scholarships in Kerala and Track Your Application.”

Your immediate task is to select one relevant scheme, read its current notice and identify the next action: registration, document preparation, renewal confirmation or status follow-up. This keeps the application process focused instead of spreading effort across unrelated portals.

FAQ: Can every Kerala student use e-Grantz?

No. e-Grantz provides educational assistance for SC/ST/OBC and other eligible categories under different departmental schemes. Kerala residence alone is not enough. Check the conditions and required certificates shown for your selected scheme before proceeding.

FAQ: Can I apply for more than one NSP scholarship?

From 2026–27, NSP permits one merit-based application, whether fresh or renewal, and multiple welfare-based applications where eligible. This portal rule does not establish eligibility by itself; read each scheme’s conditions, including any restrictions on other assistance.

FAQ: Does an approved application mean payment is complete?

No. Application verification, approval and payment are separate stages. Check the status shown by your scholarship portal and use its payment-tracking route where available. For e-Grantz, institutional claims and attendance, alongside departmental approval, affect disbursement.

FAQ: What should I do if an application window has closed?

Check for a newer dated notice and ask your institution whether any official extension or renewal action applies. Do not use an old notice as a current deadline. Meanwhile, prepare your records and explore other schemes for which you meet the conditions.

Accuracy note: Dates and portal details reflect official information checked on 9 October 2026. Confirm the selected scheme’s latest notice before applying.
