How to Apply for Scholarships in Kerala and Track Your Application
Applying for a scholarship in Kerala starts with choosing the correct portal for your course and scheme. NSP, e-Grantz, the Kerala State Higher Education Council and Minority Welfare use different application routes. Identify whether you need a fresh application or renewal before registering, then follow the selected scheme’s instructions through submission and verification.
Your next practical step is to ask your school or college scholarship office which schemes it processes for your course and academic year. Keep your registration details, application acknowledgement and supporting records together. This guide explains how to submit, follow up and distinguish application progress from payment progress.
Compare the main scholarship application routes
Use this comparison to identify where to begin, rather than registering on every portal. Each route serves different students, and an application window belongs to a particular scheme and academic year. Being a Kerala resident does not, by itself, establish eligibility for every scholarship listed on these portals.
| Portal or route | Who should check it | Main application or follow-up action |
|---|---|---|
| National Scholarship Portal | Students considering eligible central merit-based or welfare-based schemes | Use OTR, submit a fresh or renewal application, and track through student login |
| Kerala e-Grantz | SC/ST/OBC and other eligible students covered by departmental assistance schemes | Complete registration and profile; confirm institutional renewal for continuing students |
| KSHEC | First-year non-professional undergraduates at government/aided colleges and universities | Check the current notice and separate fresh or renewal instructions |
| Minority Welfare portal | Students whose community and course match a listed scheme | Read the scheme notice, submit the form and use Application Status |
| DCE scholarship routes | College students checking Department of Collegiate Education opportunities | Find the official portal through the state directory and check dated notices |
| Kerala NMMSE | School students covered by the examination’s specified eligibility | Coordinate examination registration with the school; distinguish it from later NSP applications |
1. Check the academic year and application window
Open the scheme notice before filling a form. On the evidence checked on 9 October 2026, NSP displayed 2026–27 applications for AICTE Pragati, Saksham, Swanath and the National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies with a closing date of 31 October 2026. PM-USP Central Sector renewal applications also had that deadline; this does not establish a fresh PM-USP window.
The Minority Welfare table listed ITC/ITI Fee Reimbursement from 8 October to 20 November 2026. No open 2026–27 KSHEC window was verified. For e-Grantz, check the selected scheme and institution because there was no verified single statewide post-matric deadline. Kerala NMMSE examination registration and headmaster verification deadlines had already passed.
2. Decide between fresh application and renewal
Treat fresh and renewal as separate routes. On NSP, renewal applicants should use their existing OTR and linked application, not create another OTR. On e-Grantz, the official FAQ says institutions renew or promote continuing students for subsequent academic years. KSHEC provides separate fresh and renewal guidance.
If you previously received assistance but cannot find a renewal option, gather your earlier application ID and contact the relevant office before starting again. NSP provides a Link Renewal Application facility for specified cases involving a change from a parent or guardian’s Aadhaar to the student’s own Aadhaar.
3. Prepare a submission-ready checklist
Prepare records before opening the application, but upload only what the chosen scheme requests. Requirements differ by department and academic year. The following checklist helps you organise the application session without treating every document as compulsory for every student.
- Confirm the scheme name, academic year, course and fresh or renewal route.
- Keep your existing registration number, OTR or previous application ID available.
- Have access to the mobile number needed for registration or authentication.
- Prepare admission, institution and course details matching your official records.
- Keep relevant mark lists and earlier scholarship records ready.
- Arrange income, community, disability or other eligibility certificates where required.
- Check the bank details and account-holder requirement specified by the scheme.
- Prepare readable uploads in the format and size shown on the application form.
- Identify your institution’s scholarship clerk and any required printout procedure.
4. Complete an NSP application
For a fresh NSP application, obtain the mandatory lifelong One Time Registration, or OTR, and log in through the student entry page. Complete Basic Information, choose Apply Fresh and generate an Application ID. Then complete the selected scheme form, upload its required documents and use Final Submit.
OTR involves an active mobile number and Aadhaar-related authentication. The official FAQs explain face authentication and the applicable enrolment-ID and minor/guardian alternatives. Consult those instructions if your situation differs from the standard student Aadhaar route rather than entering another person’s details without following the permitted process.
From 2026–27, NSP permits one merit-based application, whether fresh or renewal, and multiple welfare-based applications where eligible. Compare your options before submitting. Check the scheme’s course, institution, income and other conditions; appearing in the portal’s scheme list is not enough.
5. Submit through Kerala e-Grantz
For a fresh post-matric e-Grantz application, complete one-time registration and enter student login. Finish your profile, use Add Qualification and then select Apply for Scholarship. The required certificates appear against the selected scheme, so use that list to decide which supporting files to upload.
Print the completed application for institutional verification. Continuing students should ask the scholarship clerk whether their renewal or promotion has been processed. If the correct institution or course is missing, raise it with the institution first instead of selecting an inaccurate alternative simply to finish the form.
6. Follow KSHEC, Minority Welfare and DCE instructions
KSHEC’s renewable merit scholarship begins with eligible first-year undergraduates in non-professional disciplines at government/aided colleges and universities. Use the portal’s relevant-year notice, student manual and guidelines. Renewal students complete renewal through student login; selected lists and related updates are also linked on the portal.
For Minority Welfare, choose the specific scheme and read its notice before registering. Earlier official guidance directs applicants to Final Submit and download the printout, but the current scheme notice must determine attachments and fresh or renewal availability. Use the state Higher Education scholarship directory to locate DCE routes and check their dated notices.
7. Follow up on institutional verification
Submission and verification are separate stages. After submitting, ask your institution whether it needs a printout or supporting records and whether your application has reached its verification queue. Give the clerk your application ID, scheme and academic year so they can identify the correct record.
For the NSP PM-USP renewal window checked on 9 October 2026, student submission closed on 31 October, institute verification on 15 November and second-level verification on 30 November 2026. These later dates were not extensions of the student application deadline.
8. Track application progress separately from payment
On NSP, check fresh or renewal application status through student login; the portal separately links payment tracking to PFMS. On e-Grantz, application tracking uses the registered Aadhaar number and date of birth, while claim status is also available through login.
Minority Welfare provides Status Report → Application Status. KSHEC links tracking information and selected lists on its portal. Record the displayed status and the date you checked it. Approval does not necessarily mean payment has reached your account: e-Grantz disbursement also involves institutional claims or attendance and departmental approval.
9. Correct problems and keep useful records
If a correction is requested, read the reason and follow that portal’s correction procedure. NSP’s application FAQ explains defective-application correction, and its Public section lists scheme-wise nodal officers. For e-Grantz institution or course issues, start with your college; departmental and district contacts are available on the official contact page.
Save the final acknowledgement, submitted printout, application ID and any correction confirmation. FAQ: Is a saved form a submitted application?
Not necessarily. NSP and the cited Minority Welfare instructions include a Final Submit step. Before leaving the portal, confirm that you completed the required submission action and save the resulting acknowledgement or printout. A partially completed form should not be treated as a finished application.
FAQ: Should I create a new registration for renewal?
On NSP, use your existing OTR and linked renewal application. For e-Grantz, ask your institution about renewal or promotion rather than submitting a duplicate fresh application. Other portals have their own renewal instructions, so start with the relevant-year manual and your previous application details.
FAQ: Who can help when my status does not move?
Start with the institution if verification, course details or e-Grantz claims are involved. For NSP scheme issues, consult scheme-wise nodal officers. KSHEC publishes 0471-2301297 for scholarship help; Minority Welfare publishes 0471-2300523, 0471-2300524 and 0471-2302090. Keep your application ID ready when contacting them.
